In detail
The Scalp Bar is a solid shampoo shaped like a small rounded hill, which is where our name comes from. You don't lather it in your palm first. You glide it straight onto the wet scalp, section by section, so the lather starts right where oil, sweat and styling product build up.
The base is coconut, olive and jojoba oils with shea butter, for a creamy lather that rinses clean. Into it goes a blend of herbs from East Asian traditions, he shou wu root and ginseng among them. Rosemary, peppermint, ginger and tea tree oils give it a fresh herbal scent and a light cooling feel while you massage.
After the rinse, your hair feels clean and soft, and light at the roots. There's no bottle, no cap and nothing to spill in a travel bag. Let the bar dry on the Bamboo Bar Dock between washes and it stays firm.
Step by step
How to use it
Wet your hair and scalp well.
Glide the bar over your scalp section by section, front to back, three or four passes.
Put the bar down and massage the lather into your scalp with your fingertips or the Scalp Massager for about a minute, then work it through the lengths.
Rinse well.
Follow with the Conditioner Bar on the lengths.
Between washes, let the bar dry on the Bamboo Bar Dock, out of the shower stream.

Is a bar harder to use than liquid shampoo?
Not really, it's just a different gesture. Glide the bar on the wet scalp, put it down and massage the lather in with your fingertips. The first wash feels unfamiliar. By the third, it's a habit.
Can I use it on curly or coily hair?
Yes. Glide it along your parts on the scalp only, work the lather in with your fingertips and let the rinse carry it through the lengths. Always follow with a conditioner, ours or yours.
Can I use it if my hair is colored?
We haven't tested it on colored or bleached hair, so we can't tell you how your color will react. Try it on a small strand first and see how it looks and feels.
How long does one bar last?
It depends on the length of your hair and how often you wash. The biggest factor is keeping it dry: on the dock and out of the shower stream, it stays firm and wears down slowly.
Will it help with hair loss?
No. The Scalp Bar is a cosmetic shampoo: it cleans the scalp and leaves hair feeling soft and light. It does not treat hair loss or any scalp or skin condition. If you notice sudden, patchy or heavy shedding, or have a scalp problem, please see a doctor or a board-certified dermatologist.
How do shipping and returns work?
Shipping is included in the price; there is no separate delivery charge. Orders ship within 1 to 3 business days and arrive in 7 to 12 business days. Import duties and customs fees are paid by us. If a carrier ever asks you for any, contact us and we will cover it in full. Unopened products in their original condition, and an unused Scalp Massager or Bamboo Bar Dock, can be returned within 30 days of delivery. For hygiene reasons, an opened or used Scalp Bar, Conditioner Bar or Scalp Oil cannot be returned. A defective, damaged or wrong item is replaced or refunded, even if opened.
